Saturday Class

Today I'm putting together kits for next Saturday's card class. These are the cards we'll be doing, using new stamps, inks, and other products from the new 2018-2019 FSJ collections:

Should be fun, and although we haven't heard back from anyone yet, we usually have around 8 ladies attend.

Other than preparing for class, I've just been kind of puttering around. I'd like to start some sewing projects, but need to clean up and organize in my craft cave before I allow myself to do that. I've also set myself a goal to blog at least once every week, but I'm finding it hard to get back into the swing of things.  I just looked back at some of my photos - maybe I'll pick one or two every week and use that for inspiration.

Hello Fall

This is one of the cards we'll be making at our Fall Stamp-a-Stack on October 28th. I've been experimenting with StampKeeper.com. Take a look - it's a great site where Fun Stampers Journey coaches and Close to My Heart consultants upload projects with pictures, instructions and supply lists. You can browse through many projects, click on one, and have all the information you would need to replicate that project, along with a list of the supplies that are linked directly to the creator's online website so you can just click to shop! Here's the example of the supply list for this card. (This sample isn't clickable! But you can go to funstampersjourney.com/wilmapayne or email me if you'd like to order any of these items.)

Stamp Keeper

I just discovered a new site made for card makers and stampers! I can post a picture of a card I've created, along with step-by-step instructions and a list of the supplies I used. So if I ever get back into blogging regularly again, I'm going to definitely StampKeeper.com. It's also a great place if you want to just keep track of what supplies you have, and what you still want to get. So far I've posted a couple of test projects, but there are others who are posting their cards too, if you're looking for ideas. Here is one I've posted. The link will take you to the instruction page. Fun stuff!
Thanks Much Card

Mystic Romance

I did some stamping for a friend yesterday, using some of the new Fun Stampers Journey "Mystic Romance" sets that look like embroidery. After 11 cards, I decided I really should have just gone to the catalog and used it for inspiration - I was running out of ideas! It was a good way to push myself out of my usual style though!

May Card Class

Here are the cards we'll be making Saturday May 20th at the Barkman Library, 1:30 to 4:30. We'll be doing three different coloring techniques: watercolor smooshing (yeah, that's a technical term!), colored pencils and Gamsol, and FSJ fusion ink.

I'll be moving to Rawlings library, Brett Kelly Room B, for next month's class. I really like the Barkman branch, but that room's getting pretty crowded now that more people are coming. The new location should give us more room to spread out.

J is for...Jennifer's Card Class

This might be stretching the "J" a bit - but I did attend a card/stamping class put on by Jennifer Sharp last weekend, and we made three delicious cards that I really want to share. Jennifer is a Stampin' Up demonstrator here in Pueblo. She attends my classes and I attend hers, and we order from each other now and then. Her cards are always beautiful and elegant and I love going to a class where I can sit and create with friends without having to run back and forth between the groups. She has a Facebook page called Stampalotagus where she also posts extra designs for the stamp sets we've used in her monthly class.

Another thing about Jennifer's cards - they're always lovely on the INSIDE, too! My photography isn't great and doesn't do them justice. Trust me, they're great!

F is for...FUN Stampers Journey

I really enjoy being a Fun Stampers Journey Coach. I like the products and have really loved getting to "know" other coaches across the country via FaceBook and other social media. I started a little over a year ago as a hobbyist, but surprised myself with two promotions and suddenly I'm a Senior Coach Leader without really trying. So that's a good thing, and I reckon I'm being successful at it.

But not long ago I was reflecting on WHY I make cards. I mean, really - why do I spend time and money to make greeting cards when I certainly could go down to the Dollar Tree and buy a bunch???? I have boxes of cards I've made, and every month I make more to demonstrate at my class or just because I see a card that's pretty or a technique that I'd like to try. I need to figure out what to do with all the extras, and every now and then I think, with sympathy, about all the "stuff" my daughters will have to deal with when I die! (Of course, my husband has a lot more "stuff" than I do, and it's a lot BIGGER! Lol!)

Anyway, as I thought about it, I realized that I do it because it's FUN. I enjoy the creative process. It's a quiet time when I can go down in my craft room and listen to a book on tape while I play with my "stuff." My monthly classes are a social time when I get together with a bunch of ladies that I really like. I can't see well enough to bead any more, so ink, sequins and card stock help fulfill my need to fondle colorful, shiny, pretty things!

So I guess it's not really about the cards. Yes, people compliment me on the Christmas and birthday cards I send them, which makes me feel good. And find I'm sending a lot more cards and keeping in touch better than I used to. My mom takes a lot of my spare cards and uses them, so she doesn't have to go out looking for a card when she wants to write a note to a friend. But it's really about having something to do that I enjoy. Some people run, hike or walk. Others play sports or build things. Me? I stamp. 😀 And it's FUN!!!

On a side note - here are the cards we'll be making at my April class on the 22nd.

Bloom Box Club

Had a great class yesterday.  I always love seeing how the ladies put their own individual touches on the cards, and enjoy the great socialization.  I'm blessed with a really NICE bunch of people!!  Our newest member, Shirley, mentioned how much she enjoyed everyone and how helpful they all are.

At our class I shared these cards I made using the Glass Blooms set and following the February 2016 Bloom Box samples.

If you're interested in getting together, making cards, and learning new techniques, Deb is starting a Bloom Box Club.  You can sign up for a Bloom Box subscription on her website (www.funstampersjourney.com/DebMuniz), then join us every month when we get together to make the cards.  The subscription is for 6 months, and then continues month by month unless you cancel it. The cost is $24.95 per month. With shipping and tax, mine came to $33.14.

Your Bloom Box will be delivered to your address automatically each month.  It contains a full-sized red rubber stamp set and all the paper and embellishments needed to make 4 cards, along with a full-color booklet of instructions. We'll provide ink and any other necessary supplies at the club meeting.

Everyone who signs up for Bloom Box during the month of February will receive this set:
This is the month that finally tipped ME over the edge! Not sure if I love the colors or the image best. The actual stamp set will be available to anyone in May, but Bloom Box sets are exclusive for three months.

I had a couple of thank you cards to make, and somehow seahorses seemed "right" today!

CASE-ing Jeanne Bobish

I've discovered a fellow Fun Stampers Journey coach who makes great cards AND posts daily live how-to videos on FaceBook!  Jeanne Bobish is a very talented lady, and I love her cards.  If you get a chance, check out her teaching videos at 3:30 PM (5:30 PM EST).  Here's a link to her FaceBook page. You can see all her videos by clicking on Photos, and then scrolling down a bit to Videos.  Jeanne Bobish.

Here's a card she made on January 19th.  I love the colors, so decided to Copy And Share Everything - CASE in stamp-talk! CASE-ing is a great way to get started - or keep going - in card making.  You can find amazing cards on Pinterest, FaceBook, or in your handy stamping inspiration catalogs and magazines.  Change as much or as little as you like.  I copied pretty closely this time, just substituting a different sentiment and ribbon.

It looks like I'm going to have to work on taking better pictures!  Here's one more I CASEd from one of Jeanne's cards - I switched a few more things around on this one, but followed her layout and made it a shaker card like hers.

So...if you get a chance, check out some of her work.

December Card Class

Today we did these five projects at card class.  Since I haven't been able to have a card class since August, I decided to add the blue angel and the treat bag as an extra little gift to the ladies.

I provide a two-page instruction sheet to my class participants - this month I had to shorten it, so it doesn't include the dimensions of the layers, colors, etc., but I've shared it in my DropBox here if you would like to download it: December Card Class Instructions
Hopefully I'll be back posting more regularly now that we're home from various trips.  I'll post pictures from our Thanksgiving visit with family in southern Oregon soon.

Stamping on Die-Cut Shapes

Yesterday I needed to make 40 kits for this little candy topper for a Make-It project.  Luckily, my friend Barbara was willing to loan me her Frosty Fun stamp and die, but the idea of stamping and die-cutting 40 snowmen was still a bit daunting, especially since I was having a pretty hard time lining up  the die with the stamped image and keeping it in place while running it through my Journey Grand.
Then I remembered a YouTube video I had seen about using a stamp positioner to stamp AFTER cutting, and decided to try it with the home-made positioner my husband made for me.

First I cut the snowman shape out of a scrap piece of card stock and put it into one of the corners to act as a placement template for the blank die-cut pieces.  The red showing through is a sheet of fun foam that cushions the metal back of the positioner, and the card stock is held in place by magnets.

Next, I placed the stamp right into the cut opening so it fit perfectly, and closed the acrylic door of the positioner so the stamp stuck to the door and would stamp in the same place every time the door was closed.

Here's my first try.  Every now and then part of the image didn't stamp perfectly, so I just re-opened the door, made sure the die-cut shape was still in the template's opening, re-inked the stamp, and stamped again.

And here are a few of the finished snowmen.  I was able to use my card stock much more efficiently by cutting blanks, and this was MUCH faster and easier than stamping, then placing and cutting, then doing it over and over again.  This is a technique I'll definitely use again, especially with images that are a little difficult to line up in the cutting die.

Outdoor Fun

Welcome to the August Amazing Journey Blog Hoppers Hop! This month’s theme is "Outdoor Fun." I'm so happy you're hopping along. If you arrived here from Betsye Rose’s blog, you're on the right track. If not, that's ok too! Just continue the hop and you'll come full circle.

Please don’t forget to click the Next button at the bottom to continue on the hop with Carol's blog.

I love living in sight of (and within easy driving distance of) the Wet Mountains Range of the Rocky Mountains in south-central Colorado. This card is missing the beautiful pines, but the sunshine, the mountains, and Lake Isabel are all here. I used pan pastels to add color, and had to do a LOT of masking. I love how the pastels blend together - the blues in the lake, the green and brown of the shore.
