Saturday Stamping Fun

Christmas in July!

A friend came over yesterday and we stamped all day. What fun! Denise and I had signed up for RG Presents Journey Holidays, a seven-hour, live-streamed YouTube event featuring the new Fun Stampers Journey mini-catalog that will go live on August 1st. This was the first time either of us had done this, and we really enjoyed stamping together, doing the make 'n' takes along with Richard Garay, and seeing all the awesome project demonstrations.

I had muffins and fruit for breakfast, a salad and casserole all ready for lunch, and chocolate (of course!), but we didn't really eat much - we were too busy! They had some technical difficulties at one point in the morning, but after those were ironed out, the live feed went very smoothly. I had set up the large TV in the family room so we could watch in there, as well as the computer in my craft room, but we ended up in the craft room the whole time. After all, that's where all the "stuff" is!

These are the four make 'n' take cards (all supplies we needed, cut and ready to go) that came in the kit we received prior to the broadcast. We each also received two full stamp sets, two die sets, and an accessory pack. We did some stamping and die-cutting before the broadcast, and were really glad we did - Richard makes cards FAST!

During the technical difficulties, we played around with Denise's gel plate. These are some of the pieces we made, and we even had a chance to make a couple of cards, too. The gel plate is fun, and there sure are a lot of techniques you can use it for. I just might have to break down and get one!!

The next RG Presents is December 2nd, and will feature the upcoming spring and summer mini-catalog. Maybe we'll have a few more folks who want to come play! I know I'm looking forward to it already. And...now I'm inspired to start on my Christmas cards early this year!

December Card Class

Today we did these five projects at card class.  Since I haven't been able to have a card class since August, I decided to add the blue angel and the treat bag as an extra little gift to the ladies.

I provide a two-page instruction sheet to my class participants - this month I had to shorten it, so it doesn't include the dimensions of the layers, colors, etc., but I've shared it in my DropBox here if you would like to download it: December Card Class Instructions
Hopefully I'll be back posting more regularly now that we're home from various trips.  I'll post pictures from our Thanksgiving visit with family in southern Oregon soon.

Christmas in July

Welcome to the Christmas in July Fun Stampers Journey blog hop. If you've arrived from Betsye's blog, you're on the right track.  If not, jump in anyway, and follow along.
Some people plan ahead...way ahead...all the way ahead to Christmas, which is 6 months away.  I must admit I'm NOT one of those people!  I still want to order some of the awesome Christmas stamps in the Holiday Mini Catalog, but since I haven't been able to make up my mind which ones yet, I'm using Blitzen today.
For my first card, I used Pomegranate Splash, Denim Days, and Brush Silver rather than the more traditional red and green.  Although it looks black or gray in the picture, the dark layer is actually Denim Days card stock embossed with Petals Wall then brushed with Silver Pan Pastel.  The shapes are cut using the Ornate Label Dies and matching piercing dies.  I added a few splashes of silver Silk, and a wooden star accent that I colored with our silver ink pad.
I wanted a touch of brushed silver behind the focal point.  Whenever you need a smaller layer than you can cut with your dies, cut one or two duplicate layers.  Then cut the extras into enough sections to layer under your main shape.  Cut or punch squares if needed to fill in corners.  Tape to the back of the main shape with just a small edge showing, then layer as desired.

Here's another Blitzen card, in a neutral color palette of Butter Cream and Hazelnut Blend this time.  I sponged the edges of the die cut star opening, and sponged lightly over the image.  Once again, I added a wooden star embellishment, but left it natural color this time.  The other embellishments are from the Holiday Elements sequins - I sponged Hazelnut ink over them to fit the color scheme.  After looking at the card, I decided Blitzen could use a touch of color, so added a few of the red Holiday Elements sequins, dots of red glitter glue, and a paper-pieced scarf.  I think I like the second one better, but haven't completely made up my mind yet.  Maybe the "MERRY & bright" needs to be stamped in red also.  Oh well - after all, we still have 6 months till Christmas!
Thanks so much for visiting today.  Now hop on over to Carol's blog and see what she has for Christmas in July.
